INGREDIENTS
- 21 ounces apple pie filling, store bought or homemade
- 1 package pie crusts (2 crusts) store bought or homemade
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon whole milk
- 1 tablespoon McNess ground cinnamon
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Chop apple pie filling into small pieces and mix with cinnamon. Beat the egg with milk until combined.
- Roll out the pie dough to ⅛” thick and using a 4-inch circle cutter, cut out 10 circles.
- Add 1 ½ tablespoons of the apple pie filling to each circle.
- Brush egg wash around the edges and fold over the dough making a half circle. Use a fork to crimp the edges firmly together. Make two slits on the top of the pie.
- Brush with the remaining egg wash and bake for 12 minutes.
Notes
If your apple pie filling is homemade, you may not need to add any additional cinnamon.
Hand pies can be baked in an air fryer for 8-10 minutes at 350°F.
Any pie filling can be used in this recipe: peach, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, etc.
Homemade Apple Pie Filling
(can be made a day ahead)
- Chop and peel 4 medium apples. Place in a shallow skillet with ⅓ cup sugar, 3 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons butter, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Cover and cook for 4-6 minutes or until apples are tender.
- Combine 4 teaspoons cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water and add a little at a time to the simmering apples to thicken.
- Cool completely before filling the pie crusts.
